Imagine a golf player with a single club to complete an 18-hole course.
Imagine a tennis player with a single racket to play a tournament in which to win, you must play at least 6 matches
Imagine a football player with only one pair of boots for a whole season of around 40 matches
So, do you still think that to surf you only need one board?
This is where we introduce you to the term “quiver”, which according to Wikipedia’s surfing glossary is “a set of boards for different types of waves”.
The reality is that in all stages of learning and improving surfing you will need to use different types of boards.
In order to have a better understanding about the needs of any surfer, I have put together the following information as schematically as possible:
Beginner level:
- Description: you start from “zero” practicing in the white water or in small waves near the shore.
- Type of board: softboards that will vary from longer to shorter length as you evolve in the basic techniques of standing and sliding position.
Intermediate level:
- Description: you already control the basic techniques of standing and sliding position on the shore and move on to perfecting them in deep water.
- Board type: short length softboards and evolutionary boards mainly made of hard epoxy.
Intermediate-advanced level:
- Description: you already control the basic techniques of standing and positioning in deep water and start to change direction and generate speed in both directions (left and right).
- Board type: fiberboard evolutives that will decrease in size to “egg” type boards with a rounder outline and shorter length.
Advanced level:
Description: you are able to generate speed on the wall of the wave both frontside and backside and connect sections from the bottom to the top by executing maneuvers.
3 BOARDS QUIVER:
- 1 board for very small or low quality waves (RRFLEX EPS technology).
- 1 board for almost daily surfing “all rounder”.
- 1 board for when the sea rises in size and you want to enjoy instead of suffering.
High performance level
Description: you are able to combine different types of maneuvers in different parts of the wave without losing speed and control.
QUIVER OF 6 BOARDS:
- 1 board to enjoy and improve “twin fin” or “single fin” type lines.
- 1 board for very small or low quality waves (EPS RRFLEX technology).
- 1 board for almost daily surfing “all rounder”.
- 1 board specifically for barrels.
- 1 board for when the sea rises in size and you want to enjoy instead of suffering.
- 1 board for when the sea is very big and you need to survive.
High performance and competition level.
Description: you are able to combine different types of maneuvers in different parts of the wave without losing speed and control both in fresurfing and competition.
QUIVER OF 9 BOARDS:
- 1 board to enjoy and improve twin fin or single fin lines.
- 1 board to compete in very small or low quality waves (EPS RRFLEX technology).
- 1 board for training in very small or low quality waves (EPS RRFLEX technology)
- 1 board to compete in good quality waves.
- 1 board for training in good and quality waves.
- 2 boards specifically for barrels.
- 1 board for when the sea rises in size and you want to enjoy instead of suffering.
- 1 board for when the sea is very big and you need to survive.
Now the next step is to “make a custom quiver” that suits you best, not only in terms of quantity of boards but also in terms of models, sizes and performance.
