Kalani da Silva interview

Who is Kalani da Silva?

I’m 23 years old, born in Argentina with a Brazilian father and Italian nationality but with Canarian heart

I started surfing in Brazil when I was 3 years old and when I was 4 years old we moved to Fuerteventura in Canary Islands where I still live.

I started to compete since I was 7 years old until today that I continue to compete. Last year I have opened a new business surf school in Fuerteventura “Kalani Surf Academy” that takes me some time, but I really enjoy to share my knowledge and experience about surfing to future surfers generation. I would like to give to youngest surfers the opportunity that I had to explore the world outside our comfort zone and our island.

What is surfing in your life?

Surfing for me is a philosophy of life. I organize my day after checking waves forecast, to keep me free to get best waves of the day. That is maybe the part I like most,  to share and teach such a great sport while I run my business.

Describe yourself as a surfer

I consider myself as a radical surfer. I really like perfect reef waves. I got plenty of them in my island.

What is your advice to someone who wants to order a surfboard?

My advice to buy a surfboard is to look for what you really need and not only what you like most. It is very important to have a quiver to perform in any conditions. And finally, it is also very important to talk with shapers and coaches to find the magic board.
